Hi Smartdeploy Gurus

Can you help me with an issue i have with Win2k8 R2 Enterprise x64 SP1 and i have install WDS added the boot.wim and windows 7 professional Wim, created a multicast transmission. The smartdeploy.xml answer file isn't being detected but if i add the same file to a usb stick its works even though i have booted by PXE or via USB. The other error i get is Deploy Wizard an unknown error occurred while establishing a WDS multicast Session to %Servername%. Error code: 1054801659. We are using the latest version build 1960. Both the wims have been recreated with this build have you got any suggestions? We do get an IP address from our DHCP server.

The following is from the deploy.log if you need this info:

Hello,

This error is generally raised when the namespace is incorrect. This can be caused by the network share you are selecting the image from not being mapped to the default \\server\reminst WDS share. You would then select your image file from the z:\images\[image group]\ folder. It could also be that the image doesn't have a multicast transmission setup. Please check both of these things, you could also try to restart the WDS services or reboot the server.

Thanks,

Erik

Hi Erik

I solved the problem with mapping drives if i use the wim that was created with the ISO instead of ripping it out of the ISO it works.

But now i get two other errors which says "unable to update the boot configuration database" any ideas? and the other say "An unknown error occurred while establishing a WDS multicast session to <server> FQDN. Error code:- 1054801659" I have rebooted server and restarted the WDS services several times and it still doesn't work any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Did you check the things I mentioned above with the mapping of the network drive to \\servername\reminst the image path to z:\images\[image group]\image.wim and whether or not the multicast transmission exists? If all of these things look good can you send the deploy.log from x:\windows\temp and the answer file that you are using off to Support@SmartDeploy.com so we can have a closer look at them.

Hi there,

I hate to revive such an old topic, but I'm having the same issue to no avail.

Network path mapped to \\wds01\reminst

Image file location z:\images\Windows 7\longimagename.wim

Multicasting is enabled on WDS

I continuously get error 2 when trying to deploy with multicasting selected.

Does the server it asks for when you select "yes this is multicast" have a special format to put it in? ie wds01.domain.com , wds01, or similar?

Thanks!

Hello,

Just using the WDS server name will do. For example: wds-sea-01

Once you receive the error, please close out of the Deploy Wizard and hit Shift-F10 on the splash screen to bring up a command prompt. Then browse to X:\Windows\temp and send it to support@smartdeploy.com and we can take a look. Please include a brief description as well.

Thanks,
SmartDeploy Support
